Abstract:

During my short stay in Japan I was given an opportunity to meet people living in vicinity of Kawauchi (close to Fukushima), to understand current issues at stake in Daiichi nuclear power plant, to sightsee Nuclear Research Institute in Chiba, and to give two lectures: on health risks related to consuming polluted food, and on health consequences of being exposed to small doses of ionizing radiation. The events were reported by one of the daily newspapers published in Fukushima. I was also given an opportunity to meet authors of a very interesting project dubbed the D-Shuttle Project. In the lecture I would like to share my unexpectedly rich impressions from that journey.
