Abstract:

Recent years have seen revival of public debate on broadly understood education. Opinions have been voiced that the formal education system is fossilized if not outdated. At the same time numerous activities (financed from public or private funds) that are summing up into a realm of non-formal education have been breeding; in Poland that realm includes also science centres associated in the SPIN (Society and Science) federation. The topic of education seems to be as hot as never before. However, scientific communities have been popularizing the sciences for many years, in particular the latest achievements. Are we witnessing a change in social needs concerning access to knowledge? How to popularize the sciences in a modern way but simultaneously in line with expectations of the recipients? How to wisely take advantage of the digital revolution in popularization activities? What values related to knowledge popularization are worth to be cultivated and propagated? The lecture will be an attempt to answer such and similar questions.
