The National Center for Nuclear Research (NCBJ) is one of the bigest research institutes in Poland. Wide research activity takes place at NCBJ, especially basic research in nuclear physics and related fields, reactor research and development of nuclear fuel, safety of nuclear installations and many others.

Currently, we are looking for a person for a position of:

Specialist for probabilistic safety assessment of nuclear power plants

at Division of Nuclear Energy and Environmental Studies (UZ3)

Job position at the MANHAZ Center for Hazard Analysis, implementing projects in the field of reliability and safety analysis of complex industrial and nuclear installations, including nuclear power plants, new generation reactor technologies, accelerator and fusion installations, as well as cogeneration systems.

Work location:  Otwock, Poland (Suburb of Warsaw, efficient and free daily bus transport service provided). 

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Analysis of the causes, effects, and scenarios of accidents in nuclear power plants.
  • Development of probabilistic models for nuclear power plants accident scenarios.
  • Analysis of statistical data on the failure frequency of reactor systems and components.
  • Participation in projects supporting the Polish Nuclear Power Program.
  • Analytical work in the field of NCBJ activity: the creation of substantive documents and materials (reports, presentations, notes), and translations.
  • Preparation of materials for scientific articles and conference presentations.
  • Performing other activities assigned by the Head of the Division and other NCBJ superiors.
  • Performing duties in accordance with the Work Regulations in force at the Institute.
  • Observance of state and official secrets, work discipline, occupational health and safety regulations, fire regulations, and rules of protection against ionizing radiation.

Requirements:

  • Completed higher education in the field of physics or technical sciences.
  • Knowledge of nuclear reactor technology.
  • Knowledge of safety and reliability engineering issues.
  • Very good knowledge of English (min. B2).
  • Good knowledge of statistics (distribution analysis, statistical tests, time series).
  • Willingness to present results at meetings and seminars.
  • Ability to present results in the form of technical reports.
  • Highly developed communication skills and the ability to work in a team.

Additional assets:

  • Knowledge of methods and tools for Probabilistic Safety Assessment.
  • Programming in Python or MATLAB.
  • Holding a Ph.D. degree in physics or technical sciences.
  • Experience in writing scientific articles.
  • Experience in the implementation of research and technical projects.
  • Experience in obtaining grants/projects.
