Accredited research

Within the scope of its accreditation, the laboratory performs tests for:

Mechanical tests, metallographic tests of products and construction materials:

  1. Metallographic examination of metals and their alloys, non-irradiated and irradiated, by optical microscopy:
    • Microstructure, non-metallic inclusions
  2. Metallographic examination of macro- and microstructure of welded joints, non-irradiated and irradiated, by optical microscopy
  3. Tests of mechanical properties of metals and their non-irradiated alloys. Tensile test at room temperature, increased to 1000°C, lowered to -40°C. Determination of:
    • tensile strength – Rm
    • yield point – Rp0.2
    • clear yield point – Re
    • relative elongation of sample A
    • relative constriction of sample Z
  4. Tests of mechanical properties of metals and their alloys irradiated at room temperature. Determination of:
    • tensile strength – Rm
    • yield point – Rp0.2
    • clear yield point – Re
    • relative elongation of sample A
    • relative constriction of sample Z
  5. Tests of mechanical properties of non-irradiated and irradiated welds. Determination of:
    • highest force Fm
    • tensile strength – Rm
  6. Tests of macrohardness of metals and their alloys as well as non-irradiated and irradiated welded joints:
    • Rockwell method
    • Vickers method
  7. Tests of fracture mechanics of metals and their non-irradiated and irradiated alloys. Tensile or bend tests of:
    • material fracture resistance tests (determination of stress intensity KQ coefficient, stress intensity factor KQ – K1c)
    • fatigue crack development rate da/dN
    • gap opening δ, critical value of gap opening – δc

Non-destructive testing of products and construction materials:

  1. Testing external and subsurface discontinuities open to the tested surface of metal products and materials with the penetration method
  2. Testing surface and subsurface discontinuities in welded joints of ferromagnetic materials and products with the magnetic particle method
  3. Testing shape imperfections and external surface discontinuities of welded joints of metal materials with the visual method
  4. Testing internal discontinuities in welded joints of metal materials with the ultrasonic method
  5. Ultrasonic thickness measurement of metal products and materials

All tests are carried out in accordance with the latest Polish or international standards (PN-EN ISO, ASTM, BS). The laboratory’s equipment is under metrological supervision. Devices that require verification are regularly verified by NMI (GUM) or accredited verification laboratories. The employees of the Material Testing Laboratory regularly participate in various types of training, conferences and seminars to improve their skills. LBM is the organizer and participant of PT/ILC programmes (also at the international level) aimed at confirming its competence.
